Equity in Education Helps Achieve Equity in Healthcare

By breaking down barriers in education, we can help level the playing field and open doors to job opportunities, promotions, higher compensation, and leadership positions that may otherwise seem out of reach.

Together, we’ll pave the way for thousands of healthcare professionals in the U.S. to change the trajectory of their careers, and in turn, change the course of healthcare and improve patient outcomes in their respective communities.

1,000+ Scholarships For More Equitable Healthcare

Imagine a world where only 11% of the RN workforce is male, only 5% of physicians identify as Black, and only 27% of board members at the top 100 U.S. hospitals are women. This is the healthcare workforce we know today. We believe we can do better. That’s why we’ve partnered with CommonSpirit Health to promote inclusion, diversity, and equity in healthcare through a $3 million scholarship program geared towards healthcare professionals who are looking to develop their skills, knowledge, and expertise through skills-based education and training. This scholarship offers experiential learning by providing access to top-tier institutions and relevant educational programs that will help professionals in health solve the diverse challenges they’re facing.

Alexander Vincent Santiago

Clinical Resource Nurse

“As a minority male nurse working in a female-dominated profession in the United Arab Emirates, I truly understand the struggles of being different. I have experienced discrimination in the healthcare industry first-hand. Through this scholarship, I want to become a nurse leader who gives equal and fair chances to all staff members regardless of their skin color, culture, sexual preference, or religion. I do not want my future team to experience what I have experienced. I want to lead an organization that welcomes and celebrates differences. I visualize myself being a part of a healthcare industry where diversity and inclusivity are the norms. I want all nurses to feel safe, loved, and accepted.”

Georgene Glass

Nonprofit Executive Director, Dreamsickle Kids Foundation, Inc.

“As a single mother of two, my life changed when my second child was born with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), a rare genetic blood disorder that primarily affects those of African descent. From that point forward, I was determined to learn everything I could about the disease. The more I learned, the more I realized the disparities in healthcare and health outcomes, and the lack of funding and research allocated to this disease. I believe that this scholarship will serve me in my role as a nonprofit executive, advocating for those with SCD and other Rare Diseases. It will open doors and opportunities for me to be a voice for the community. My passion is to fight for equitable treatment for these diseases, and the only way to do so is to further my knowledge of healthcare and its processes.”

Registered Nurse, Clinical Resource Nurse

“Money has always been my limiting factor in achieving higher education. My father died at an early age when I was only 7 years old. Since then, my mom struggled to raise us and give us a comfortable life on her own. But this never stopped me from remaining passionate about nursing, delivering the highest quality of care with compassion to my patients, and sharing my knowledge and skills with my colleagues. With this scholarship for the Certificate in Nurse Leadership, I will be able to use the skills that I learn from esteemed instructors to empower my colleagues, set an example, and lead them towards competence with confidence. I can show them that there is no limitation on aspiring for higher education. I can cement myself as a qualified leader in my organization, and become a future leader that will ensure equal opportunities to all, regardless of our differences.”

Senior Director of Community Engagement, Messiah Lifeways

“For much of my life, I felt as if I never quite fit in. I grew up in a small town about an hour south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was a socio-economically depressed area with little diversity and opportunity. As half Filipino and Italian, we looked, acted, and sounded different — and therefore we did not fit in. This experience helped shape my compassion towards others who were different, treated unfairly, or maybe just misunderstood. I could empathize and appreciate their desire to just be a part of the community and have access to equal opportunity. Earning this scholarship for the Mini-MBA in Healthcare would help better position me as a thought leader and innovator at my workplace. We must become more innovative and inclusive, to encourage and advocate for a more diverse and equitable healthcare workforce.”

Tallerita Tunney Rogers

Tallerita Tunney Rogers

Director of Community Development, NACA, Inc.

"As a Navajo woman and mother, I accept my responsibility to gain the necessary knowledge to make system-level changes, including within the healthcare administration system. What I have learned is that to make meaningful change in healthcare administration, I have to have the language and tools for this field. This scholarship will provide me with the tools that I need to make organizational and healthcare systems changes."
