Healthcare Leadership - Phoenix Children’s

5 min read

The Client - Phoenix Children's

Phoenix Children’s is one of the nation’s largest pediatric health systems. The enterprise includes pediatric specialty and urgent care centers, community-based pediatric practices, outpatient clinics, ambulatory surgery centers, and community-service related outpatient clinics throughout Arizona.

Phoenix Children’s has more than 6,700 employees, including at least 1,175 pediatric primary care providers and specialists who deliver care across more than 75 subspecialties.

The Challenge

Phoenix Children’s rapid growth, coupled with a reduction in training opportunities during the pandemic, left many leaders without structured leadership development opportunities. Additionally, internal organizational development experts and senior leaders wanted to build a program to invest in high-potential leaders to meet the growth and changing demands of the organization.

Phoenix Children’s has operated previous Leadership Academies in partnership with another university. While the previous format filled a need, Phoenix Children’s found it cumbersome to plan, manage, and measure the delivery of the program.

The Solution

Phoenix Children’s leveraged OpusVi’s 12-week online Certificate in Healthcare Leadership program to develop 21 high-potential leaders across the organization.

This approach enabled Phoenix Children’s to drastically reduce the time required to deliver such a program by their internal learning and organizational development staff, while ensuring their leaders participated in a meaningful, skills-oriented, learning environment.

The organizational development sponsor received weekly reports of learner progress and collaborated with OpusVi’s Support Team to encourage and support learners as needed.
