Leveraging Evidence-Based Models
The program is designed using a competency-based educational framework and aligns with ANCC’s Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP) standards and criteria allowing hospitals to demonstrate the excellence and rigor of their clinical transition programs. Additionally, the program is designed based on the following research-based models:
Donna Wright Competency Model:
- Competencies are identified, assessed and validated at the point of care with multiple validation methods. Licensed RNs must be empowered to own their practice and competency development and held accountable to practice to the full extent of their licensure.
Married-State Preceptorship Model (MSPM):
- Partners preceptee to preceptor at all times, working together and managing a full patient load from the very beginning, with tasks increasing as the preceptee transitions into practice.
Casey-Fink New Nurse Experience Survey:
- Evidence-based survey commonly used to assess transition to practice programs. Insights into skills, support, patient safety, stress, communication, leadership, professional satisfaction.
Benner’s Novice to Expert Theory:
- Advocates for opportunities where nurses can apply and integrate theoretical knowledge with actual events.

I find Dossier to be very user friendly; I am able to create education and competencies Read more in the format I want with ease. I have been able to create electronic competencies for all of our employees and have been able to reduce paper use. I have only had one difficulty, which my rep has been helpful in trying to solve. I think it's ultimately a feature that is not available, but that is not going to impact my Dossier use. Sometimes we have issues with staff being able to receive Dossier emails due to company security, but Dossier always works with our IT department to get it resolved. We can have all employees in one system and can manage their annual and monthly competencies. This helps with our CMS regulations and reporting. It also helps not to use so much paper, and eliminates the need for large paper files. Hide
